The Catalysts InfoSearch Elements

The Catalysts InfoSearch publishing system comprises a range of different elements. Your bespoke system will be a combination of these elements, and their selection will depend on your individual requirements.

Catalysts will configure your chosen elements and deliver the system to you in either a SaaS or an ‘on premise’ configuration – depending upon your choice.

Included in the Catalysts InfoSearch ‘pick and mix’ are:

  • Access control module
  • Content build and index ‘engine’
  • Database editor
  • Document management system
  • ecommerce application
  • Online publishing application
  • Portal
  • Relational database
  • Subscription management system

Access control module

This can be stand-alone or incorporated in your subscription management system. It holds customer’s information in a relational database. This module controls what each customer can access in the InfoSearch system.

Content build and index ‘engine’

This indexes the content of all the documents which have been selected for publication. It also handles the index updates as content is added and changed.

Database editor

Metadata is extracted from the main online site content and stored in the relational database. When the online content is updated, this editor allows the metadata to be added to the database.

Document management system

A document management system can be incorporated into the content build and index ‘engine’. This can also be used as the pre-publish repository for collaborative content creation.

ecommerce application

This is the back-end of the online shop where subscribers can purchase and pay for their subscriptions and one-off purchases.

Online publishing application

Incorporating a full text search engine, this application delivers content to the user’s browser based on their search terms. Every element of the user interface can be customised, including the hierarchical table of contents or custom taxonomy. Results from multiple sets of content can also be cross referenced.

The portal

The portal is the front page of the website. It is built on a web content management system which holds all the ‘static’ content. It also provides links to the other areas of the system.

Relational database

Holding information in sets of ‘related’ tables, the relational database can include customer records (subscription management system), user details (access control module) and metadata for the published content.

Subscription management system

This is the ‘back office’ which is closely integrated with the ecommerce system. It controls the access to the whole Catalysts InfoSearch system. It gives you access to detailed activity reports. It can also provide data exports which can be imported into your accounting systems. Your users can be given access to manage their accounts.
