If it's free there's got to be a catch. Right? Right. If anyone tells you that open-source software is completely free then you're in for a major disappointment - either because it will cost you lots or because it won't work. The best-known open-source applications are probably Wordpress, Drupal and Joomla, all of which are for constructing and maintaining websites. And the reason they're so well known and are so effective is because they have been widely used and each has a large and active support and development community.

New Creative Commons licence for using government data Print E-mail

Anyone wishing to reuse government and parliamentary information will have to apply for a new licence from now on.  The Click-Use licence, available for the last decade, has been phased out and replaced with a Creative Commons type licence devised by the Office of Public Sector Information (OPSI). The new licence is already used on the data.gov.uk website and will authorise the reuse of data both commercially and non-commercially.
