Blurb DIY book publishing targets Europe Print E-mail

Blurb, the online book publishing service for novice authors, has launched its B2B programme in Europe. Offering downloadable book publishing software and a single-copy print-run facility, the firm hopes to generate new business from the creative sector.

Packaged as B3, the Blurb Business to Business program aims to give creative businesses and individuals finely tuned print accuracy and consistency when self-publishing short-run books. Blurb has made its name, and won several awards in the US, by offering Blurb BookSmart, a free publishing application for Macs and PCs. The B3 business version also offers a 'Custom Workflow' feature, at a premium price, which is claimed to "provide a higher degree of color control and consistency across book orders".

Blurb print on the HP Indigo press and have tuned their profiles to match its particular characteristics – "Providing a custom profile that enables photographers to accurately soft proof their images - so what they see on their monitors is what they get in print - has been the holy grail for enthusiast and professional photographers alike," said Eileen Gittins, Blurb's founder and CEO. "The professional market - both communications professionals and creative professionals - has been adopting Blurb in droves, and we quickly realized that this segment needs access to Custom Workflow and a variety of other tools. B3 has been an excellent addition to our services in the US, and we are pleased to announce that the program can now support the European professional market."
