TextWise aim to put semantics back into semantic search |

In a recent interview with Jennifer Zaino, TextWise's CEO Connie Kenneally expressed concern that far too much attention had been focused on the mechanics of semantic search and not enough in defining the output that the user expected from their search.
Kenneally said, "I tend to not look at semantic search in the technology sense but in the application sense. If someone asked me where to use semantic search for their applications, I would try and understand what they want to do, what is their objective. There are many ways to skin a cat in semantics and [the decision should be a] function of what the application is that you are driving and what approach might best fit with that." Using call-centre operators as an example she went on: "Somehow we have to be able to figure out how to return information to people that answers their questions. The problem is we continue to have people narrow their focus to one or two words and those words are supposed to bring back information that deals with customers' concerns."
The vast influx of potential search results from social networking sources is making the precision of the search request even more important if the enquirer is not going to be overwhelmed with irrelevant results.
