Originally issued back in 2001, the EU's MoReq2 standards have recently been updated. These provisions cover the management of electronic records, including email archives and case files. The standards are issued on behalf of the DML Forum but are financed by the EU Commission.
MoReq has become widely used throughout Europe as a model specification for implementing electronic records management systems. MoReq2, the new evolutionary edition, reflects changes in technology since 2001 and user-practice over those 7 years.
One important addition is a software testing regime aimed at users needing to meet compliance standards. Also, as a result of its multi-national scope, the new edition allows for individual national variations to be added to the core provisions. In the UK, MoReq2 will replace the National Archive's UK TNA Approval scheme.
Doug Miles, UK Managing Director of the Information Industry Association, said, "MoReq2 includes much useful guidance for anyone involved in procuring or managing a document, content or records management system, including IT managers who need to maintain compliant email archive systems."
