Catalysts complete project to take as much human intervention as possible out of a publishing system Print E-mail

Catalysts recently completed such a project for a UK publisher of O&M and H&S manuals. The project was to provide integration between a Document Management System (DMS), a publication configuration system and a publishing website/intranet.

Catalysts specified the system as follows:

  1. 'Authors' would submit their files into the DMS where editing and approval workflows could be managed.
  2. Thereafter 'publishers' could configure any number of publications (by click and drag), many of which could share common files.
  3. Once this stage was completed the 'publisher' could, with one click, create the online publications for viewing on a staging server.
  4. Once approved, another click would make the publications live to their users.
  5. The final website was also provided with a sophisticated Access Control Module (ACM) working from a database of user, rights and publication details plus a Statistics package for reporting on usage, queries etc.

Catalysts used Knowledge Tree's Professional KTDMS, a bespoke configuration module, FAST NXT Builder and Server with a bespoke ACM (using MySQL database)and a bespoke Statistics package.
